Australia Encompassed

Australia Encompassed is a 19 day/20 night transcontinental motorcycle adventure. From the tropical delights of the Northern Territory through the iconic red centre of Australia, along one of the greatest outback tracks and through the lush scenery and along the incredible biking roads of Victoria. Intricate landscapes and fascinating people await you all along the way. It all adds up to one of the most iconic rides there is! If you're going to cross a continent, then this is the way to do it!

Beginning in the Northern Territory and heading south via Kakadu National Park - the world heritage listed jewel of the Northern Territory with its incredible wildlife with big crocs, stunning bird life, water buffalo and an amazing variety of plants and trees in a wetland paradise. Watching the sunset over the wetlands at Ubirr is a magical experience and exploring the caves and 60,000 year old aboriginal artwork at Nourlangie provides an amazing insight into the country and the connection the aboriginal peoples have to it.AUS - Enduro 2

Katherine Gorge and Nitmiluk National Park follow. Here you can take a boat or canoe ride along a series 13 linked gorges.
We then ride to Alice Springs, Uluru (Ayers Rock), the Devils Marbles (a small but spectacular National Park situated north of Alice Springs), then ‘the Olgas’ and the heart of the dusty 'red centre'.

Next it’s on to Lake Eyre, the lowest point in Australia but a high point in our tour (don’t expect to see too much water – if any) and onward to South Australia and Victoria. Haunting desert scenery and World Heritage areas are the flavour of this tour while some great off-road riding via the famous Oodnadatta desert track adds a touch of adventure. This amazing desert track follows a traditional aboriginal trading route and provides you with some stunning desert riding. Numerous mound springs feed water from the Great Artesian Basin along the way, forming the occasional palm fringed oasis. Progress once brought the Central Australian Railway to the endless Gibber Plains, opening up the outback to settlers and travellers. Remnants of the many long abandoned railway sidings and overland telegraph repeater stations can still be seen along the track.AUS - Encompassed

Next it’s into the Adelaide Hills with wonderful twisty biking roads, and the Barossa Valley, famed for its excellent wines.

The last stop in South Australia before entering Victoria is the stunning Coorong National Park, a sanctuary for innumerable species of birds, mammals and of course fish. We can arrange an optional beach fishing excursion from here if you want to get a bit closer to some of the specimens that call the park their home, with the chance to catch mullet, shark and salmon to name but a few.

We then cross into Victoria and enter another world entirely, one filled with ancient forests, fern lined gullies, fast flowing creeks and shimmering lakes where we explore the 400 million year old Grampians National Park. Finally we ride along the famous Great Ocean Road.

The Savannah Way with Simon Pavey

AUS - SavanahThe Savannah Way is Australia's ultimate adventure ride, along the northern edge of the continent. From the Coral Sea to the Indian Ocean this 21 day adventure motorcycle tour is on mixed surfaces with both road and dirt riding. We ride across a staggering four world heritage areas and you have the chance to experience some of the finest off-road routes in Australia, all whilst under the expert guidance of Dakar legend Simon Pavey. This is the very definition of an 'adventure ride', a real 'adventure' but with all the local backup and support you could ever imagine needing. Great quality accommodation combined with quirky outback camping, a world-class rider/leader and an amazing opportunity to experience parts of Australia most people never visit, whilst making lifelong friends along the way.

Week One: Starting in the tropical city of Cairns close to the Great Barrier Reef we venture first into a spectacular landscape dominated by pristine rainforests before continuing on over the contrasting tablelands to visit the largest lava tube system in the world and the ancient sandstone Cobbold Gorge.

We push into the 186,000 square kilometre expanse of the Gulf Savannah, Queensland's Outback by the Sea, home to Australia’s prawn capital of Karumba and other small coastal settlements located on the shores of the sparkling turquoise waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria. We spend two nights in the stunning Boodjamulla National Park (previously known as Lawn Hill National Park), exploring the emerald waters and amazing scenery in this real life outback oasis. The end of the first week is spent in the unique landscapes of the Northern Territories.

Week Two: Dirt tracks are the theme for week two and there will be plenty of gravel and off-road riding to enjoy as we make our way to the tiny settlement of Roper Bar on the banks of the crocodile inhabited Roper River. We spend a night at Katherine allowing us to enjoy a sunset cruise in the mighty Nitmiluk Gorge (included in the tour price), a series of 13 gorges banked by sheer 70 metre high cliffs. Sunset is utterly spectacular and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the second week.

We continue on to the rightfully legendary UNESCO World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park where we spend two nights; this means we have plenty of time to ride through this massive park, view the spectacular wildlife, visit the ancient indigenous rock art and get a real impression of what a tropical delight Kakadu really is. An overnight stop in the Northern Territory capital of Darwin will give us taste of life in the northern city before we leave this urban hub and hit the Outback again to end the week camping in the most remote areas of wilderness.

Week Three: We now enter Australia’s biggest state - Western Australia - to ride through a vast and empty, yet incredibly beautiful landscape of ancient red sandstone, turquoise waters and epic cattle stations the size of some European countries.

Did you watch the Top Gear ‘cattle drive’ episode? We reach the mighty Kimberly and hit what is fast becoming Australia’sAUS - Savanah 2 most iconic 'must do' ride, the Gibb River Road. We stay two nights at El Questro Wilderness Park where we can explore the surroundings, resplendent with permanent waterfalls and rocky escarpments. Continuing along the Gibb River Road we reach Derby, situated on King George Sound on the Indian Ocean, then push on to the tour’s conclusion in Broome after 3 weeks of some of the most extraordinary riding on Earth.

This tour includes approximately 45% riding on paved roads where road surfaces vary from single lane tracks to smooth wide highways. The remainder of the ride is off road. Riding will be mostly on dirt tracks varying from good, fast gravel through to some mild sandy sections with deep corrugations and the possibility of shallow creek crossings. 'Bull dust' can be a common occurrence on this tour. A flexible attitude will be required on the ride as conditions in the Outback can change on a daily basis - that's all part of the fun of course!

Included in the tour:

  • 14 nights of accommodation during the tour in comfortable, 3-4 star resorts, motels and hotels. Remaining nights are camping in more remote areas
  • Motorcycle – choose from 5 fully ‘outback prepared’ bike options for this tour: Suzuki DR650, BMW 650 Sertao, F700GS, F800GS or R1200GSW
