Australia - Mountains and Beaches Motorcycle Ride (Sydney to Brisbane to Sydney)

AUS - MB3This fantastic motorcycle tour across New South Wales and into Queensland has got it all: Stunning mountains, superb beaches, beautiful gorges, fantastic waterfalls and wonderful cities! This tour combines the staggering beauty of Australia’s natural world with cosmopolitan cities and resorts that have become iconic the world over for their architecture, friendliness and quality of life.

Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrive Sydney. Our tour starts with a day to savour the sights and sounds of Sydney, one of the World’s most scenic cities. It’s a great place to start your tour – Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Bondi Beach, ferry boats to Manly, not to mention the sports and nightlife, are just for starters.

DAY 2 Sydney – Kangaroo Valley. Grab a taxi to our rental location, and your adventure starts in earnest. You starts with a ride to the Royal National Park, one of Sydney’s favourite playgrounds over the century. Then it’s off to Stanwell on the coast for lunch at Hargreaves before climbing the tops to see the hang gliders and birds in action on the 200 m cliffs. The afternoon ride along the coast road offers many fine views while negotiating the bends. Hopefully the blowhole at Kiama will give you a good show, before you ride through lovely countryside, huge valleys and quaint villages before arriving in secluded and serene Kangaroo Valley.

DAY 3 Kangaroo Valley - Blue Mountains. Start the day with a ride to Fitzroy Falls, named after one of the great British explorers of the 19th century. Then ride to the Southern Highlands, with its lush landscapes and quaint villages such as Berrima, an unspoilt example of a small Australian town in the 1830s. This is an area that was among the first to be settled by Europeans. Ride past Abercrombie River National Park and Mt Werong to the Blue Mountains and you begin to realise why pioneers chose this area when heading out from Sydney. Enjoy the incredible scenery, huge waterfalls and the second largest canyon on Earth before dinner.

DAY 4 Blue Mountains – Hawkesbury Valley. This morning is spent sightseeing in the Blue Mountains - Three Sisters, Wentworth Falls, cable car rides, lovely walks through the lush, 'blue' bushland from which the area gets its name, and plenty of scenic outlooks. Today’s route is a circular ride back around the mountains.

DAY 5 Blue Mountains – Hunter Valley. Get up early because there’s more spectacular riding. Take the winding back road past the gorges of Wollemi National Park. Visit the renowned Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens for lunch. From the restaurant the Putty Road, one of Australia's most exciting biking roads, takes you to your accommodation in Hunter Valley. There’s time for an optional wine-tasting tour or just take it easy, you are just a short taxi ride from some of the area’s famous restaurants and wineries.

DAY 6 Hunter Valley - Armidale. More incredible riding and views along a scenic and twisty back road takes you through New England to Armidale. Famous for its deciduous trees in Autumn and unusually seasonal due to its 1000m altitude, it has some of the most scenic roads in Australia nearby. A country town feel combined with a good choice of restaurants mean it's a nice place in which to spend the evening in anticipation of the ride along the Waterfall Way the following day.

DAY 7 Waterfall Way (Armidale - Bellingen). It's not a long day on the bike but there's so much to see it takes all day. The simply breathtaking Waterfall Way will have you enthralled all the way - dense rainforest, countless waterfalls, huge views over New England National Park and one of the best biking roads in the country. Stay the night at a lovely country town at the base of the Great Dividing Range. If you arrive earlier than expected ride the 'Promised Land' circuit which takes you through a beautiful single track country lane past crystal clear streams where you can stop for a refreshing swim on a hot afternoon!

DAY 8 Bellingen – Lismore. You want more spectacular back roads? You got it! From your overnight stop wind your way through northern NSW to the far north hinterland region known as Rainbow Country. Overnight in Lismore, a cosmopolitan eclectic town with a laid-back atmosphere.AUS - Brisbane

DAY 9 Lismore – Brisbane. This journey takes you along fantastic twisting, windy roads through the hinterland of the Gold Coast. You’ll pass through Australia’s most famous hippie destination in Nimbin and see more spectacular national parks along the way. As you travel along it’s hard to imagine that just 30km or so east is one of the busiest and fastest growing areas of Australia. The day ends in Brisbane, the bustling capital of Queensland with a great river, great nightlife and beautiful botanical gardens. End the day with a bottle of something nice overlooking the river!

DAY 10 Brisbane – Noosa. Heading west out of Brisbane more winding roads and the glorious sights of the Glasshouse Mountains will keep you busy all day. You can also visit Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo on the way to your overnight stop at Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. Spend time at the beach or visit Noosa National Park.AUS - Noosa

DAY 11 Noosa - Byron Bay. On the return trip from Noosa ride south along the Sunshine Coast past the busy tourist towns of Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Caloundra. The Gold Coast is Australia's most visited holiday destination - great beaches, all the top theme parks, busy nightlife and a surprisingly beautiful hinterland. If you want it busy you've got it, if you prefer the views then you can have them too! Stay off the freeway for the best roads and sights and end the day in Australia's most easterly point at Byron Bay. Here you’ll find a lively and friendly small town, beautiful beaches and a lovely hinterland. Once a centre for 'alternative lifestylers' it has a unique atmosphere.

DAY 12 Byron Bay (free day). You have a day free in Byron Bay to relax on the beach, visit the famous lighthouse and enjoy the atmosphere in town at one of the many good restaurants. If you’d like to explore a little more on the bike take a ride to Ballina or into the lovely hinterland – it’s up to you how you spend the day!

DAUS - ByronAY 13 Byron Bay - Port Macquarie. Follow the line of spectacular beaches on the Pacific Coast and visit great towns including Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. Enjoy the coastal scenery and holiday resorts on your trip back down the coast. Stay overnight in Port Macquarie, a relaxed city with a good complement of restaurants and bars.

DAY 14 Port Macquarie – Sydney. More coastal scenery and magnificent beaches await today. It's a shorter trip back in terms of time as you've seen the hinterland highlights on the way. After returning your motorcycle, end your tour with a great dinner in one of the Rocks area restaurants overlooking the spectacular Sydney Opera House, or enjoy a drink in one of the historical pubs popular with locals and tourists alike!

DAY 15 Sydney. Your tour is well and truly over, and it’s time to head back to the airport, or on to your next adventure, with some fantastic memories.
